American Canoe Association Programs
Level 5 Advanced Open Water Coastal Kayak Instructor Certification Workshop
February 1 to 6, 2020
San Francisco Bay, the Golden Gate and the Marin Headlands are perfect locations for advanced coastal kayaking with strong tidal currents, powerful swells and changeable weather conditions providing an abundance of learning opportunities and easy access to Advanced Open Water conditions.
Ryan Rushton and Sean Morley invite you to participate in a comprehensive, informative and challenging three or six days of instructor training and/or certification.
The first three days of the course will be an Instructor Development Workshop (IDW). The last three days will be an Instructor Certification Exam (ICE). You may choose to the 3 day IDW, the 3 day ICE or all six days. Attending either the first three or the last three days of this course will also count as a Level 5 Update. The goal of the program will be to provide a supportive learning environment in authentic level 5 conditions. You will invigorate your teaching, broaden your coaching ability and build your experience teaching and paddling in one of the most dynamic coastal kayaking locations in the world.

British Canoeing Programs
Sea Kayak Award Training & Assessment
February 1 to 3, 2020
The British Canoeing Sea Kayak Award / Coastal Sea Kayak Awards are NEW in 2019 and are designed to develop your skills and ability to apply appropriate decision making for an enjoyable and safe day out on the sea, in slight / moderate conditions. These awards focus on personal skill development, without group leadership training elements.
The new awards are not prerequisites for any British Canoeing leadership or coaching awards.
Coastal Navigation & Tidal Planning Training
February 4, 2020
This course is designed for paddlers carrying out coastal journeys including islands up to 2 nautical miles offshore, in tidal areas up to 2 knots and winds up to Beaufort Force 4. The training provides candidates with the tools to plan and navigate efficiently, through a number of practical planning exercises. There are no prerequisites for attending this course.
This classroom training day is a prerequisite for the Sea Kayak Leader (moderate water) Training course.
Sea Kayak Leader Training
February 5 to 6, 2020
This course focuses on the personal skill level and leadership ability required to lead a group of paddlers, on short, single- or multi-day journeys in a moderate tidal water environment, with winds not exceeding Beaufort Force 4.
There are no British Canoeing registration requirements to attend the Sea Kayak Leader training course. However, you must:
Have capable sea kayaking skills in moderate open sea conditions
Have completed Coastal Navigation & Tidal Planning Training
Sea Kayak Leader Assessment
February 1 to 2, 2020
This course assesses the personal skill level and leadership ability required to lead a group of paddlers, on short, single- or multi-day journeys in a moderate tidal water environment, with winds not exceeding Beaufort Force 4.

Core Coach Training
February 3 to 4, 2020
Core Coach Training explores different approaches to coaching, understanding and enabling learning, and the development of core coaching skills. You will be supported in evolving your personal coaching development plan to enable you to take your learning into practice after the course.
The course will take place in a sheltered water environment, in a variety of paddlesport craft. There are no British Canoeing skills prerequisites to attend this course.
Sea Kayak Coach Training
February 5 to 6, 2020
This course focuses on sea kayak coaching skills in moderate conditions. The course is aimed at those working towards the Sea Kayak Coach Award and is also suitable as stand-alone training.
During the course, we will focus on how to coach technical and tactical sea kayaking skills. The course will help you plan and deliver safe, enjoyable, progressive coaching sessions and we will explore specifics to help coach different learners at different stages of learning.
